It’s a well known fact among my circle of friends that my favorite wine varietal happens to be Riesling. When I find a GREAT Riesling, I’m particularly enthusiastic about it. I would rank Fess Parker among the best I’ve had.
This is a well-balanced Riesling that I would classify as off-dry. On the nose, I detected honeysuckle and melon. On the palate is a delightful melange of melon, peach and apricot with a finishing tang of pineapple. The alcohol content is listed as 12.5 %.
At about $14.00 a bottle, I would not classify this as an every day wine (I tend to keep everyday favorites under $10.00 a bottle), but it is a great choice for when you want something just a little special.
Wagner Vineyards Vignoles 2003

Wagner Vignoles has been one of my favorite wines for several years. I began drinking this wine when I was in my wine drinking “infancy”. Back then I only liked sweeter wines and this one certainly fit the bill. While it is admitedly a sweet wine, it has a rather tart finish that adds a very nice contrast and complexity. This Vignoles has tropical fruit aromas and flavors. A mouthful of sweet, succulent pineapple comes to mind. It’s almost like drinking a glass of sunshine. This wine would go very nicely with glazed ham, or you might want to try it as a dessert wine with a slice of your favorite cheesecake.
Wagner Vignoles is estate bottled at Wagner Vineyards in the Finger Lakes region of New York. In addition to the winery, they have a very nice brewery and have some full-bodied, great tasting beer that you can sample for free. And, it doesn’t stop there…if you’re hungry you can have a nice lunch at the restaurant on-site. If you get to the Finfer Lakes and have the opportunity to visit some of the wineries, make sure you get to Wagner’s.
By the way, now that I consider myself a littke more sophisticated, I eagerly enjoy a wide range of wines from sweet to bone-dry. That gives me a LOT more choices, so I hope I live a very long time!
Coppola Bianca

Opened a bottle of Coppola Bianca tonight. This is a white blend of 44% Pinot Grigio, 42% Chardonnay and 14% Sauvignon Blanc. Quite frankly (pun intended), I wasn’t exactly thrilled with my first sip, but it kind of grew on me. In every aspect, this is a very light wine. It’s nose is rather nondescript, with a bit of spiciness. On the palate, there is also a forward spiciness with a slight fruity finish. The impression I had was of peaches.
Although I probably would not buy this wine again, I would not object to drinking it again. At about $10.00 a bottle, it’s not a bad choice for someone who prefers a light, spicy, white wine.
